Japanese players get acquainted with My Dinh stadium

HanoiOn the evening of November 10, players playing in Europe such as Tomiyasu (Arsenal), Minamino (Liverpoo), Yoshida (Sampdoria) … practiced the only session before the Vietnam match in the 2022 World Cup qualifier.

The Japanese practice session starts at 6pm. This is the first time that they have a full force, after three different flights to Vietnam in three days. The last trip brought 11 players from Europe and landed in Hanoi on the night of November 10.

Defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, a player who plays in the English Premier League for Arsenal.

Tomiyasu landed “Gunners” for 20 million euros, and made a strong impression with his comprehensive defensive ability. Since his arrival, the London team has not lost a match in the English Premier League.

Tomiyasu plays as a right-back at the club, but plays as a central defender in the Japan national team.

Winger Takumi Minamino, who joined Liverpool in 2019 for 8.5 million euros.

This season Minamino has played five games and scored three goals for Liverpool, but mainly in domestic Cup competitions.

Veteran midfielder Maya Yoshida is playing for Sampdoria. He spent eight years playing in the Premier League for Southampton, from 2012 to 2020.

Besides the ability to defend, Yoshida also has the ability to participate in the attack. This season he has scored twice in Serie A.

Midfielder Ritsu Doan, born in 1998, is on the staff of PSV but plays for Germany’s Arminia Bielefeld on loan.

Doan was the only scorer from the penalty spot, helping Japan beat Vietnam 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the ASIAN Cup 2019.

Striker Daizen Maeda (right), plays for Yokohama F Marinos and leads the scoring list of the J-League 2021 with 20 goals.

A few years ago, he shared with Japanese media that: “The match against Vietnam will be very difficult. If we open the scoring early, we can score more goals and change the game. If we can play, I want to score first.”

Japan brought 28 players to Vietnam, but only 23 were registered. Right-back Hiroki Sakai was the only one unable to train due to a groin injury.

Japan is rated the strongest in Group B, but suddenly lost to Oman and Saudi Arabia, only won six points and ranked fourth after four matches.

Therefore, coach Hajime Moriyasu stated that Japan has only one goal in the Vietnam match, which is to win three points.

The match takes place at 7pm on Thursday 11/11, at My Dinh Stadium.
