Acne Studios targets nomadic style for new men’s collection-Men’s fashion
From Agns Varda’s dramatic 1985 film Vagabond to Chloé Zhao’s Oscar-winning Nomad Land last year, the life of a nomad is seen as interesting and even the envy of outsiders.
Despite the boredom and danger it brings, it offers an escape from the boring monotony of everyday life. The Fall/Winter 2022 collection from Acne Studios captures the aesthetic taste of the nomadic community in a variety of works with a tourism focus.
“Living in isolation has made me realize how much we are used to traveling. This makes me think of nomadic communities, such as those in northern Sweden near where I grew up. This collection is about how the language of clothing evolves in society, blending and contrasting designs,” said Creative Director Jonny Johansson in a statement about the collection.
To give the collection a sophisticated look, the Swedish fashion house uses ancient patchwork and fabric techniques. The colorful brocade pants and the matching vest tell the story through the many individual patterns that make up the whole. Elsewhere in the collection, splashes and knitwear lend a cozy touch to turtlenecks, plain blouses and tights.
Comfort is the design principle behind the rustic tweed and layered shearling jacket. Paired with a comfortable farmer’s silhouette, quilted pajamas, and ruffled velvet buttons give Acne Studios the signature maximalism we’ve come to expect from a larger-than-life fashion house.
While this collection is inspired by the lifestyle known for being solitary, two accessory collaborations help bring it to life. The former collaborated with artist Jessi Reaves, known for high-end designer furniture, to create a collection of rings, bracelets and necklaces. The reaves necklace adds a welcome sparkle and sparkle, as is the coveted gem at the heart of the goblincore aesthetic embodied in the collection.
Another collaboration is between Acne and fellow Swedish brand Kero. Johansson wore their shoes in his youth and brought brand influence to his own version of the classic ‘break’ style. The most ambitious result of this collaboration are eye-catching brown boots. The partnership of the two adds depth to the theme of Acne’s odyssey and collects various artifacts during one’s journey.
