France Football makes historic changes to the Ballon d’Or
In a recent announcement on the homepage, France Football magazine has announced that they will be changing the race golden ball from 2022. Thus, The performances of the candidates will be counted in one European season from August to July next year.
As such, the 2022 Golden Ball will count towards the women’s EURO finals, which will take place from 6 to 31 July 2022. Meanwhile, the finals 2022 World Cup in Qatar later this year will count for the 2023 race.
Apart from the historical changes mentioned above, the leading French magazine also introduced a number of other changes.

Now the competition will be fairer
First, this prestigious award for the best names in the world of football will compete for 30 male candidates, 20 female candidates and 10 minor candidates, namely Yashin and Kopa.
Previously, this list was handpicked by France Football. But from now on, Didier Drogba, the Golden Ball ambassador, will join many other experts to form a voting committee.
These people were selected because they had the closest voting result to the final result in the previous award.

With this change, it is difficult for Ronaldo and Messi to have a chance to compete
Second, the organizers have also decided to reduce the number of countries that have the right to vote. Thus, only representatives of the first 100 countries in the rankings FIFA (and the first 50 countries for women) are allowed to vote.
The last change is the voting criteria. In particular, the first criterion for selecting the Golden Ball winner is the individual appearance and impressive performance of the candidates.
The next criterion is collective achievement in this season. Finally, criterion number 3 will refer to the player’s level and sense of fair play.
