Mazda leaders in early March officially confirmed Japan’s ambition to become a “second Lexus”, with most of its future models revamped to compete with traditional luxury cars. The new Mazda CX SUV lineup (CX-60 to CX-90) and the new Mazda6 are definitely names in this category.
As for the Mazda6, the flagship sedan will switch to the new rear-wheel drive chassis that was just introduced on the CX-60 and will of course have the same I-6 engine options as the mid-size SUV (although a number has not yet been determined).
The plug-in hybrid configuration that Mazda first used on the CX-60 99% will also make a comeback, but it’s unclear what the 4-cylinder engine will be.
Moreover, even the design of the 4th generation Mazda6 is expected to appear pretty much the elements used on the CX-60 and Sugardesign_1 has used the above frame to redraw the new sedan.
The interior of the Mazda6 also promises a lot in common with the CX-60.
If the rumors coming from Japan are true, the 4th generation Mazda6 will be launched in the third quarter of this year and be widely sold globally from early 2023.
