Welcoming the sunset in… towards midnight, winter sleeps until 9 am and does not see morning

Denmark has long been on the list of the happiest countries in the world, with the United Nations happiness index always topping the list. A country with beautiful nature, gentle people, social system, excellent welfare with a good standard of living and many other reasons, there is no reason why this country should not have a name on that “golden” list.

Apart from the happiness index, Denmark is also a tourist attraction because of one very interesting feature – namely… Sunsets. It is said that the sun is an important natural element that influences people’s feelings of happiness. Well, you know, in Denmark, in the summer, the sun isn’t nearly 10 o’clock in the evening!

A Vietnamese man tells a strange story few know about in the happiest country in the world: Welcoming the sun setting in... towards midnight, in winter sleeping until 9 and not seeing the morning - Photo 1.

Last summer, Vietnamese YouTuber Vinh DK showed netizens this amazing phenomenon while filming the sunset at 9:30 p.m.

Vinh DK (real name Quang Vinh) is a well-known social media personality and YouTube content creator with videos around culture and life in Denmark. He has a Danish wife named Emma and now the whole family is living a very happy life.

In the video, Vinh shares: “Hello everyone, my wife and I are currently in the port area of the city of Sonderborg (Denmark) on a Saturday weekend. It’s 9pm, can’t you see the sun is just starting to set now? As promised, I’m shooting a video. which explains why in Denmark, it’s still light at 9pm.

This is the view at 9 pm in the city of Sonderborg, the sky is still clear, the harbor is very crowded.

It’s around 9 pm now

Because Denmark is located in Northern Europe and also in the upper part of the Northern Hemisphere. In Vietnam, I have a saying: “May nights are bright, October days are dark without a smile”. This adage means that on hot summer days the days are slightly longer, especially in North Vietnam, the summer skies are longer and darker.

In Denmark, on the exact day of the summer solstice, apparently mid-June, I don’t remember very well, that I was able to go to see the sunset at almost 10pm. It’s almost the end of July, so today the sun is setting at around 09:30. This one can be searched on the Internet for more clarity. Winter will be the opposite of summer, it will be very dark, around 15:30 it will be dark and then it will be a long morning in the morning, 9:30 am to see the Sun.

As YouTuber Vinh DK said, it is known that the midnight sun phenomenon often occurs in several countries located north of the Arctic Circle such as Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland…

Even in the Faroe Islands (Denmark), from early June to mid-July, the sun never sets here. This amazing phenomenon is called the “White Night”. Tourists often head to the Múlafossur waterfalls on the island of Vágar to watch the endless sunsets. It is also one of the few places in the world where a waterfall flows directly into the ocean.
