As an underwater fiber optic cable line that directly connects Southeast Asia with the US, AAG was officially operational in November 2009 (Illustration image: Internet)

Until now, according to experts, despite frequent problems, AAG traffic is still used by many domestic operators at high speed. This is also the reason why whenever the cable experiences problems, it still greatly affects the quality of international services provided to network users, especially in the early days.AAG is a submarine cable line that officially operated more than 11 years ago, with a length of 20,191 km, connecting Southeast Asia directly with the US. Countries and regions through which this submarine cable route passes include Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam (the cable branch turns to Vietnam with a length of 314km, landing point at Vung Tau), Brunei, Hong Kong (China). , the Philippines and the United States (Guam, Hawaii and California).

Last year, the AAG cable line experienced three problems. And in the last incident on October 22, 2021, the submarine cable line experienced a disruption in the S1I cable branch connecting to the Internet from Vietnam to Hong Kong (China). The cause is confirmed to be a broken cable in this branch. After several delayed repair schedules, with the problem recently resolved, the AAG route S1I cable branch has ended more than 4 months of service interruption.

An ISP representative in Vietnam added that currently there are still damaged cable branches connecting to Singapore from the AAG cable line, but the capacity on this branch cable is very small, so the impact is not significant. It is expected that the branch cable connecting to Singapore will be maintained from 3 May to 8 May.

Earlier, on the same day 27 February, incidents on two other underwater fiber optic cables, Lien A (Intra Asia – IA) and Asia Pacific Gateway (APG), were remedied and returned to normal operation.

At present, Internet connection from Vietnam to international is mainly through submarine cable routes including AAG, APG, SMW3 (also known as SEA – ME – WE3), Lien A (IA – Intra Asia) and AAE-1 (also known as SEA – ME – WE3).Asia – Africa – Euro 1). In the past, when 3 submarine cable routes AAG, APG and IA encountered problems, in order to minimize the impact on the quality of service provided to users, network operators quickly implemented transfers and additional solutions to complement other undersea and land traffic. cable.
