Do this at a wedding, couples are more likely to divorce-Young people

You shouldn’t be jealous of lavish “other’s house” weddings, they don’t necessarily have a happy ending.

For every couple who intends to get married, a grand wedding is something almost every girl dreams of. Dream dresses, lavish parties, grand guests, or all-day fun are all things promoted by the media and cultures of many countries.

Bridal magazines and jewelry companies always encourage couples to be princesses and princes at their weddings without being afraid to spend the big day.

However, scientists have come to the opposite conclusion. According to many studies, the more money you spend on your marriage, the easier it will be to dissolve your marriage.

Instead of wasting money on weddings and honeymoons, it’s better to save money if you want your marriage to last longer. Illustration

A study by Emory University (USA) found that couples who spent 20 thousand dollars (about 450 million VND) on their marriage had a divorce rate 1.6 times higher than the group who spent between 5 and 10 thousand dollars. Couples avoiding divorce have marriages of only a thousand dollars or less. In addition, weddings with fewer guests also have lower divorce rates.

Economics professors Andrew Francis-Tan and Hugo M Mialon surveyed 3,000 married couples and found certain characteristics increase the likelihood of divorce.

According to research, the amount of money a couple spends on a wedding ring and reception is inversely related to the length of the marriage. In particular, the more expensive the ring, the easier it is for two people to break up, especially if the cost is more than $2,000. The same is true for wedding arrangements, with weddings costing less than $1,000 the odds of separation were significantly reduced, while those spending more than $20,000 had a 1.6-fold increase in divorce rates.

The Qualtrics survey also found that 45% of couples aged 18-53 fell into debt after an expensive wedding. Of course, they paid the price for the expensive party when 47% of couples with large marriages said they were considering divorce because of financial problems. Meanwhile, only 9% of unmarried couples think about divorce because of finances.

Not only constrained by money, couples who hold a grand wedding also have a lot of problems in their marriage just because of the wedding expenses. About a quarter of couples who have large weddings say they have had an argument about expenses related to the couple’s family that they found unreasonable. As for unmarried families, only about 20% of couples debate this issue.

Worst of all, about 36% of large wedding couples often argue with each other about money, whether it’s related to wedding expenses or other expenses. This figure is only 11% for families holding simple weddings.

In addition, couples with modest marriages also spend more wisely than families who prefer large weddings. About 40% of modest married couples keep the bonus while this figure is only 10% for large married couples. Most families hosting grand weddings often use the welcome money to pay off wedding debts or for a luxurious honeymoon trip.

Interestingly, unlike many couples imagine, the biggest expense newlyweds spend on a wedding is the honeymoon trip, not the wedding itself. According to surveys, about 27% of wedding expenses are spent by couples on their honeymoon, 22% on food and drinks at the wedding, and 17% on venue and organization costs.

According to wedding planning company The Knot, the average wedding should have about 136 guests and costs US$31,213 (excluding honeymoon costs). Terrifying! Is it necessary?

Wedding ceremonies are now more like dazzling milestones than long-term commitments. Decades have passed, with the influence of the media and the wedding industry, weddings are also many times more expensive with a heavier guest list the better. But this is completely in line with what we see today when families and people divorce each other so quickly and easily.

You have to ask yourself what is most important to you, not guests that have nothing to do with your wedding. For people in their 20s and 30s, a wedding that is too grand is a sign of irresponsibility.

If you’re in love and about to get married, perhaps after doing this research you’ll have one more reason to maximize savings on your wedding. Illustration

What we want to admit is not the praise of a brave bride, gentle husband, faithful husband, virtuous wife… but we want to see and hear everyone’s admiration firsthand.

Sometimes you don’t think about every situation. What happens to your wallet when you have to borrow money to make a big wedding? Many people think “The marriage is only once, so it must be done until”.

This is again the reason why weddings are no longer just a once-in-a-lifetime event. According to Professor Hugo M. Mialon and his colleagues, a simple marriage will help the couple to get rid of the financial pressures that are the source of the separation.
