Even though you have shown the way back to Da Lat, suddenly one day want to act as a tourist to this city, how does it feel? Considered the “land” of Da Lat, blogger Vinh Bear was the first “guest” in Da Lat and had an interesting experience on Vietnam’s oldest train.

About 3km from downtown Da Lat, towards Yersin Park, visitors will be able to see firsthand the station town with the oldest architecture in Vietnam. Dalat Railway Station was built from 1932-1938, designed by two French architects, Moncet and Reveron. Located on the 84 km long Thap Cham – Da Lat railway line, this is the most unique train station in Indochina.

At that time, Da Lat station was the only station with a steam locomotive and 16km wheel rail, the highest station in Vietnam at an altitude of 1500m above sea level, with an average slope of 12%. In 1972, the Da Lat – Thap Cham railway stopped working. Later, the locomotive that ran this geared train was sold to a business in Switzerland. Today, the station still maintains a train that runs a distance of about 7 km to Trai Mat Station for visitors to visit and enjoy.

With a graceful design, apart from the arched roof architecture like many other French railway stations, Da Lat station also has a strong original footprint with three pyramidal roofs representing the three peaks of Lang Biang mountain. In particular, it is a work with a harmonious and subtle combination of Western and communal house architecture in the Central Highlands. In 2001, Da Lat Railway Station was recognized as a National History – Architectural Relic.
