The pathetic contrast of the Nhieu Loc channel has just been revived
Since 2002, a project has been designed to “remove” the black channel Nhieu Loc – Thi Nghe in Ho Chi Minh City. Project engineers had to construct an underground sewer system to collect wastewater under an 8 km long, 3 m diameter culvert to increase drainage capacity; at the same time, strengthen the canal banks and install a 60 km long sewer to collect wastewater. Prior to the project implementation, this area was often inundated due to the small sewer lines; serious water pollution, especially in densely populated areas due to not collecting and treating wastewater… In June 2012, the project to improve environmental sanitation in the Nhieu Loc – Thi Nghe canal was completed with a total investment capital of Phase 1 of more than 8,600 billion VND, in of which more than 1,600 billion VND is the compensation and permit costs of more than 7,000 households with nearly 50,000 people.
