The video only recorded one lobster but attracted over 13 million views, what’s so special?

In July 2021, a video about lobster by Mr. Jacob Knowles – a fisherman specializing in fishing in the state of Maine, New England (USA) “rocked” TikTok, attracting more than 13 million views, more than 1.4 million likes and 15,400 comments.

As stated by Mr. Jacob, the lobster in the video has a very special point. Based on years of sailing experience, he judged this shrimp to have a lifespan of more than 100 years, equivalent to a very long human time.

“People always ask me which is the biggest lobster I’ve caught. I can’t answer because I have no way of weighing it on the boat…

But I believe this lobster is the biggest I have ever seen. I really don’t know how much it weighs. He must have weighed almost 5kg and was probably almost 100 years old.” said the man excitedly as he lifted the shrimp in front of the camera with both hands.

It is known that these two “terrible” paws alone weighed at least 1.8 – 2.2 kg. To make it easier for people to visualize, Jacob picked up a 0.5 kg lobster he had caught earlier. A 100 year old lobster looks several times bigger than a small lobster.

Fishermen are happy to share: “It’s funny to imagine my grandparents, or most likely my dad, catching this lobster before and releasing it into the ocean. We’re going to let it go back into the wild.”

Therefore, Jacob actually released the giant beast back into the sea. His actions received a “rain” of praise from netizens.

Before that, someone in Canada had caught a “big” lobster in Vinh Fundy. It is estimated that this shrimp has a length of almost 1.2 m and weighs more than 10 kg.

Catherine MacDonald, owner of shrimp shop Alma (New Brunswick, Canada) said the lobster could be hundreds of years old, brought ashore in good health.

The shrimp were later sold for 230 USD (over 5 million VND) to someone named Nova Scotia. This man used a fishing boat to carry lobsters to the Bay of Fundy and then released them back into the sea.
