The export ban targets about 48 countries that the Russian government says have engaged in hostile acts against Russia.

The government added the ban was aimed at ensuring the operation of important sectors of the country’s economy is not disrupted.

The move appeared to have an impact when Europe’s second-largest car group, Stellantis, announced it would stop importing and exporting cars from Russia.

Stellantis operates an assembly plant in Kaluga and exports Citroёn Jumpy, Peugeot Expert and Opel Vivaro models from Russia.

According to Reuters, only late last year, Stellantis planned to invest in turning a factory in Russia into a center for exporting finished engines and cars to Europe, Latin America and North Africa.

Hyundai, together with Kia, which operates production facilities in Russia, have also decided to suspend operations here. A statement from Hyundai reads: “We can confirm that the activities of Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Russia have been confirmed. (HMMR) has been suspended until further notice. due to global logistical problems making it difficult to procure components. Employee safety and customer service remains Hyundai Motor’s top priority. We sincerely hope this situation is resolved peacefully as soon as possible.”
