On March 13, Indian media reported that police were looking for a suspect in relation to sexually assaulting a young girl in a clip that went viral on social media.
Police said the incident took place in Walpur village, Alirajpur district during a local festival event. The entire attack was captured by security cameras near the scene.
In the video, a young girl can be seen trying to get away from a crowd of young men walking across a busy street. However, suddenly a young man rushed over, grabbed the girl who was groping and trying to kiss the victim. The girl flatly refused.
The man rushed to molest the young girl.
After being satisfied with his despicable behavior, this young man let go of the victim and calmly left. However, tragedy continued to befall the young girl. Another man in the crowd suddenly rushed in, trying to control and sexually harass the girl. The victim continues to struggle alone.
It is worth mentioning that dozens of young people around witnessed the incident but no one helped the victim. One son even took the phone to record this scene. After that, not one but many other youths dragged the girl into the crowd to feel the victim’s helplessness.
The girl continued to be sexually harassed by other men in broad daylight.
Police said the clip was posted on March 11 from a Twitter account. The police representative added:To date, we have not received any complaints. However, when we took the incident too seriously, we conducted an investigation and identified the video recorder and a number of suspects who harassed the victim.“.
According to the initial investigation, the video of the attack was recorded and shared by a university lecturer, who was arrested shortly thereafter. Currently, there are 3 suspects involved in the case being detained for questioning.
The victim himself resisted the attack with no one to help.
The incident made the public very angry when the crowd of young people present at the scene acted insensitive when they saw the victim being sexually harassed without anyone standing up to help, some even taking part in the attack.
In addition, the police also appealed to young women when attending festivals or when going to crowded places not to go alone because they would easily become targets for bad people to be exploited and harassed as in the case of the victim above.
