Ukrainian newspaper: Russia runs out of Kalibr missiles, must temporarily withdraw to Crimea

In an article published on March 13, the Kyiv Post reported that Odesa has been the target of missile attacks over the past two weeks on defense positions of the city and the region. In the early days when Russia launched “special military operations” from February 24, attacks on Odesa were fierce, then gradually became sporadic.

Initially, Russia’s Black Sea Fleet imposed a naval blockade on ports in Odesa to block trade routes and put pressure on the Ukrainian economy.

Entering its second week, the Russian navy continues to attack Ukrainian defenses along the coast. Their “threatening” presence has raised hopes of an upcoming amphibious operation, however, so far, the Russian side has not been able to fulfill this intention.

In particular, Ukraine claims to have hit one of the most modern naval vessels of the Black Sea Fleet – the Russian patrol boat “Vasily Bykov” with a crew of 32 people.

According to the Kyiv Post, most of the Russian fleet is currently anchored behind Cape Tarkhantut in Crimea, a protected position that allows them to quickly return to operational areas off the coast of Odessa.

Some international experts theorize that the Russian navy has exhausted its stockpile of Kalibr cruise missiles. The Kyiv Post thinks this theory seems plausible, as the original plan for Russia’s attack on Ukraine was to finish it all within 2 weeks.

In a recent announcement regarding the Odesa situation, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Alexei Danilov said that Russia was continuing to plan landings in Odesa.

In the Black Sea, they [phía Nga] wanted to arrange this situation 3-4 days ago, but due to the weather, they were forced to move to Sevastopol. Now they are coming back. Now the Russians have a strong desire to start landing in Odesa, but believe me, they won’t be able to do so easily.” – UNIAn news agency quoted Danilov as saying.

Currently, the Russian side has not commented on the information provided by the Ukrainian side.
