The stressful epidemic situation along with rising prices has caused many people to “sleep less”. For young people, all expenses are increasing rapidly while wages are still “stagnant”, never before, they clearly feel the difficulties and hardships that await ahead as they are now …

Every day, Ms. Pham Ngoc Anh (27 years old, administrative worker), has to go to work from her home in Ha Dong to her company on Hoang Hoa Tham Road (Ba Dinh) a distance of more than 16km. Because he has a family, Anh rides a scooter with a large trunk. Every time he poured 120,000 VND, the fuel tank was full and it lasted about 5 days. Currently, apart from going to the company every day, because she also has to visit her sister’s house to help buy groceries, in less than 3 days, the 27-year-old girl has to refuel once.

According to Ms. Ngoc Anh, not only gasoline but also food and medicine prices have increased. For example, in the past, every time I went to the market, I used to buy 5,000 – 10,000 VND of green vegetables, which was enough to feed 3 people. Currently, this young mother has to spend an average of 15,000 – 20,000 VND. Even the spices like ginger, lemongrass, garlic… the price also goes up.

The rising price made Ms. Ngoc Anh must consider every expense

In addition, this entire family of 3 people had just recovered from COVID-19, so Ngoc Anh had to actively buy fruit to make it healthy even though it was more expensive. In addition, because he has to work in an office, he often uses delivery services whose prices increase shipping costs.

“With my current monthly income, I have to calculate more and more carefully to ensure family life. Gas prices are high, so all costs and purchases also increase, making me even more hesitant. For days when buying a bunch of vegetables, I also consider which type is cheap enough and still provides the necessary vitamins.

I see that salaries run out faster and there is almost no accumulation during the epidemic, prices are as high as today. The epidemic has become more difficult due to spending a lot of money on treatment and prevention, now everything is increasing, so I feel a lot of pressure,” said Ngoc Anh.

During the outbreak, Nguyen Thu Ha (25 years, freelancer) mostly worked remotely. Often at home, he doesn’t have to refuel his motorbike for more than a month because if he goes out, he has a friend to pick him up.

Thu Ha is worried because she has to use her savings when the epidemic situation and market price increase

According to Kam Ha, which previously poured around 100,000 VND to fill the motorcycle fuel tank, now with that amount, only 2/3 can be poured. Due to infrequent travel, the 25-year-old girl is not pressured by the continuous increase in gas prices, but is affected by another aspect namely food prices, food delivery services being pushed up.

“In recent days, the price per food order via the app has increased. If the day before ordering around 50,000 – 60,000 VND, you have used a discount code, now it has to be 65,000 – 70,000 VND. Although only a little higher, but every day I order, the price is quite expensive.

The job this time was also difficult, so I had to use the savings I saved last year. Now, ordering food outside or cooking at home is also expensive, hopefully things will get better soon,” said Kam sharing.

Like Thu Ha and many other single people, Nguyen Thuy Trang usually doesn’t pay much attention to gas prices. Recently, when the price of gasoline rose by the day and listened to the gossip of friends and colleagues, he also paid more attention.

Thuy Trang is determined to tighten spending, limit going out, eating out and shopping to cope with this difficult time.

“I’ve never been so nervous when I go to refuel. In the past, I only spent around 800,000 VND per month on gas, but now the number will probably double,” said Trang.

Therefore, in order to tighten spending during this difficult time, the female marketer decided to prepare her own lunch, limit going out or eating out and reduce spending on cosmetics and clothes.

“With food and shopping expenses, I can measure, measure and count, so I will try to save as much as possible. I have to work hard to get through this stage,” said Thuy Trang express.
