Doctors recommend that patients with Omicron re-infected after only 15 days

Omicron is currently the main circulating strain in Hanoi. Many people think that if they have contracted this variant, the possibility of re-infection will be low, leading to subjective psychology after recovering from the disease.

On the afternoon of March 14, sharing with PV, BSCKII Nguyen Thu Huong – Head of the Covid-19 Prevention and Control Unit, Thanh Nhan Hospital said that recently many people are having a subjective mentality when they think that they have contracted the virus. Omicron variant will be less likely to be re-infected, so there is a subjective phenomenon.

According to current Dr. Huong, there are cases in the family that have many F0s, the other is F1 who intentionally “drops” to infect with the mentality of “previously infected with Covid-19, if infected with the new strain of Omicron then will not get it again” “. But according to Dr. Huong: “This is a very wrong view”.

“Recently, Thanh Nhan Hospital has received more than 10 cases of re-infection. Patients can be re-infected within 1 month, in particular, only 15 days later, the patient was re-infected.” Dr. Huong said.

Dr. Huong added that there were 2 cases of re-infection, it is possible that the patient was previously infected with the Delta strain and then was vaccinated, causing subjective psychology. But this person continued to be re-infected with a new strain – Omicron.

In the second case, people were infected with Omicron strain but still re-infected with Omicron but with another branch.

Accordingly, Omicron consists of 3 branches BA.1, BA.2, BA.3, the original strain BA.1 has spread worldwide since November 2021. Up to now, strain BA.2 has gradually replaced, becoming the dominant variant in many countries. People who have been infected with the original strain of Omicron, BA.1, can then be infected with the BA.2 strain.

“The rate of reinfection at this point, I see with Omicron is very high,” Doctor Huong recommended.

“I also contracted Covid-19 before and after, if I get the new strain of Omicron, I won’t get it again.” But according to Dr. Huong: “This is a very wrong view”.

All subjects, from young to old, can be re-infected if they come into contact with the source of infection. But subjects at high risk of re-infection are immunocompromised elderly, people with underlying medical conditions, and unvaccinated children. Particularly, reinfection can meet young people so people can’t be subjective. Mutants constantly change shape, change their immune properties, the body will not be able to recognize the infection again.

“According to research, the second infection is usually more severe. Besides, although Omicron’s expression is usually not as severe as the Delta strain, the shorter the re-infection time will make the patient tired, leading to a longer post-Covid-19 time, affecting the body’s health. Doctor Huong analyzed.

Therefore, Doctor Huong thinks that, when F0 recovers from the disease, there will be antibodies to fight against the invasion of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, however, if the antibodies are not strong enough, the recovered person will subjectively not comply with 5K, when exposed to another F0 carrying the new strain, there is a risk of reinfection.

People who have been vaccinated or have been infected still have to do 5K well after recovering from illness, self-monitor their health to make sure they are not infected and are not an intermediary to infect others.

When the body shows symptoms of cough, fever, fatigue, etc., it is necessary to perform a quick test to check for the possibility of reinfection.
