Cris Phan, also known as Cris Devil Gamer is one of the most famous gamer in Vietnam. He owns a YouTube channel that hit the diamond button with a “huge” following, and is also one of the names that once entered the Top 100 most influential YouTubers in the Asia-Pacific region.

Referring to Cris Phan, most people will think of phrases like “YouTuber has a great family”, “born at the finish line”. However, the glorious present is not associated with a smooth past, his childhood is not as complete and strewn with roses as one thinks.

Cris Phan’s real name is Phan Le Vy Thanh, a native of Kien Giang. When he was less than a month old, his father collected all the money to bring the family to Saigon to make a living. The whole family had to live in an old, cramped rented house in the magnificent city. His childhood was spent living in extreme poverty. Cris Phan once shared that his childhood was surrounded by poverty, so much so that his mother was sick and could not afford to take him to the hospital.

The event that had the most profound effect on Cris Phan was the fact that his parents “separated each other” when he first entered secondary school. This caused the 6th grade boy at that time to be psychologically unstable, from a young boy. Innocent children gradually become closed to the world.

In an interview in February 2019, Cris Phan once revealed his own childhood picture and shared: “My father moved from Kien Giang to Saigon to start a business with empty hands, had to live in the slums. After that, things got better, when in 6th grade, our family went bankrupt. From a gentleman who only knew To eat and study, I had to follow my father to live in a poor working-class area in District 8. Then the three tried to work and rebuild from scratch. But not just once, our family went bankrupt 3 times.” .

He also shared “I used to have to live in extremely difficult days when I had to borrow money from friends to have enough 15,000 VND to buy a bowl of noodle soup” before having the success as it is now.

This YouTuber also admitted that these events had a great influence on his spiritual life as an adult. Later, Cris Phan gradually opened up, but still could not escape the feeling of loneliness and isolation for a while. Behind the radiant face and the usual witty laughs is a quiet, contemplative Cris in everyday life.
