Gray whales turn into ‘motorbike taxis’ to carry tourists around

Tourists are on a boat in Guerrero Negro, Mexico, when a gray whale emerges from the water.

The gray whale swam along to lift the boat out of the water, much to the amazement of the passengers.

In the video recorded by Lory Barra – one of the passengers on the boat. She exclaims in the video: ‘The gray whale is driving us out!’ This could be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the boat passengers.

Lory, from Manhattan Beach in California, said the whale had been playing with people on the boat for more than two hours and it was an ‘extremely rare thing’.

Lory Barra added that the whale even ‘turned to look at me a few times.. and waved at me with its fins as it dropped our boat and almost touched my hand.

‘This gray whale is twice the size of our boat and weighs an estimated 30 tonnes.’

Some species of gray whales can weigh up to 40 tons and adult gray whales can reach lengths of more than 15 meters.

This mammal is extremely intelligent, so it can “play” with tourists in Mexico. A curious whale ‘kissed’ a tourist boat last month. Taking that opportunity, the gray whale raised its head out of the water and allowed boat visitors to touch and kiss it, before playfully spewing water and leaving.
