Low-power Hyundai Creta price returns to Vietnam

Hyundai Creta 2022 has just been launched in Indonesia and is planning to return to the Vietnamese market after 5 years of stopping sales to compete with Kia Seltos, Honda HR-V in the SUV/Crossover segment.

On March 15, from Indonesia, Hyundai Creta 2022 was introduced to the Vietnamese public and the Asia Pacific market. This is the 2nd generation and is designed specifically for Southeast Asia and Middle East markets.

The model has 3 versions with 6 colors white, red, black, silver, metallic gray and blue. In particular, when imported from Indonesia to Vietnam, the standard version costs 620 million, the special version costs 670 million and the high-end version costs 730 million. The premium version has an option of 2 color tones with an additional price of 5 million VND.

Compared to the first generation imported from India and launched in Vietnam in October 2015 using a 1.6L engine, including a gasoline engine priced at VND 806 million and a diesel engine priced at VND 846 million, this comeback of Hyundai Creta Imported from Indonesia, there is a big difference when the model is equipped with a gasoline engine with a capacity of less than 1.5L, the price drops sharply, cheaper from 76 million to 186 million.

Of course, with a cheap price, the capacity of this model is weaker than the previous version and compared to competitors.

Specifically, the old generation Hyundai Creta has a Gamma II gasoline engine with a maximum capacity of 123 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and 151 Nm of torque at 4,850 rpm. To the new generation, Hyundai changed to a naturally aspirated petrol engine, with a capacity of 115 horsepower (less than 8 horsepower) at 6,300 rpm, maximum torque of 144 Nm at 4,500 rpm.

The plus point for Creta compared to its previous self is the application of iVT gearbox technology (intelligent continuously variable transmission), which operates more smoothly than the 6-speed automatic transmission in the old generation.

A quick comparison with competitors, it can be seen that the Kia Seltos (priced at VND 639-749 million) is a bit more expensive but also has 2 options of 1.4L and 1.6L engines, with a capacity of 128 and 138 codes. force, for stronger performance than Hyundai Creta.

Similarly, compared to models such as Honda HR-V (priced at 786-871 million VND), Peugeot 2008 (priced at 759-849 million VND), Hyundai Creta has a lower price but the operating capacity is also weaker.

On the outside, the Hyundai Creta 2022 has a length x width x height of 4,315 x 1,790 x 1,660 (mm), a ground clearance of 200 mm, longer and taller than the old generation. The car has a design similar to the new generation Tucson such as a large black painted grille, LED bird-wing position lights. Because it is a small car, the wheel size is still the same 17-inch size but the design is modern.

The new generation Hyundai Creta has a simple interior but full of toys.

Inside, Creta’s cabin is laid out simply, without too many fancy details but enough toys. The car uses a 10.25-inch entertainment screen, 8-speaker audio system, steering wheel integrated with control buttons. Conveniences include push-button start, 8-way power driver’s seat, automatic air conditioning, rear seats with separate air vents.

Safety technologies on the car include cruise control, MSLA speed limiter, electronic handbrake and automatic brake hold, tire pressure sensor, reverse camera, 6 airbags. The high-end version adds SmartSense active safety package such as forward collision warning, blind spot warning, lane keeping assist, rear collision warning.

Compared to other markets like Indonesia and India, the Hyundai Creta has a much higher price bracket.

In India, the 2nd generation Hyundai Creta was launched from mid-March 2020, priced in the range of 10 – 16 lakh (equivalent to 320 – 521 million VND), cheaper than Vietnam from 209 million to 300 million VND. This model is in the top of the best-selling SUV models in India as well as in some South American markets. However, the reason for the super cheap price may be because the equipment on the car version in India is often less than the version in Vietnam and other countries.

In Indonesia, Hyundai Creta 2022 was launched in November 2021 with 4 versions, the lowest price is only 279 million rupiah (equivalent to 444 million VND). The remaining three versions are Trend, Style and Prime, respectively, priced at 299 million rupiah (475 million VND), 359 million rupiah (571 million VND) and 397.5 million rupiah (632 million VND). Thus, the price of Hyundai Creta in Indonesia is from 98 million to 145 million VND cheaper than the price in Vietnam.

Hyundai Creta was launched at a time when the B-size high-rise market in Vietnam was quite cramped and fierce competition. In this segment, there are many previous models that are “attracting customers”, typically rival Kia Seltos itself. This will certainly be a difficult problem for Hyundai Thanh Cong.

The previous precedent, the first generation Hyundai Creta lasted less than 3 years in Vietnam (launched in 2015 and died at the end of 2017). With a selling price of more than 800 million dong, the first reason explained by dealers and car dealers is that it is expensive, with little equipment commensurate with the selling price, so sales are low. Some of the disadvantages listed by consumers are slow throttle response, rear brake uses a drum type that is not commensurate with the price, loud noise at speeds from 80 km/h, especially evident in the rear seats.

Hyundai Creta is in the price range of Hyundai Kona, so observers believe that this is a Kona replacement model to compete with Kia Seltos, Honda HR-WORLD.

According to the company’s announcement, this model will be transferred to production and assembly in Vietnam in 2023.
