Opposing Facebook’s decision to loosen control

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights yesterday warned that the decision of Facebook about the temporary relaxation of the policy of controlling violent speech that could create a wave of hostile speech against Russians. Meanwhile, Russia has opened a criminal investigation into Meta.

A spokesman for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights said that the new policy of Meta, the parent company of Facebook, could contribute to the creation of hate speech aimed at the Russian people in general.

According to her, this is really worrying, and the United Nations Human Rights Office plans to raise these concerns with Meta. Meanwhile, on the same day, Russia opened a criminal investigation against Meta and may consider the platform an “extremist organization”.

Russia’s Investigative Committee believes that Meta’s move may violate the provisions of Russia’s criminal law.
