Regarding the case of a white python appearing at the Mau temple area (Van Phuong commune, Nho Quan district, Ninh Binh), on March 15, discussed with PV, an officer of the Wildlife Rescue Center. Soc Son Wilderness (Hanoi) said that yesterday (March 14) this unit received a white python from the Nho Quan District Forest Protection Department. The python is in poor health.

“After receiving, we arranged the barn, fed and monitored the health of the python. The python is in the stage of preparing to molt, so it is weak and has a runny nose, indicating a respiratory disease,” the official said.

According to the staff directly taking care of the python, this is a species of ground python, but it has a genetic mutation, so the color is somewhat different. This python species is distributed in many regions of Vietnam. However, to be more precise, it is necessary to take samples and send them to the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources for assessment to determine the standard species.

Before that, on March 12, on social networks, an image of a giant white python appeared in the aisle of the Mau temple (Tien Phuong village, Van Phuong commune, Nho Quan district, Ninh Binh province).

According to the share of the person who uploaded the clip, this python appeared at the Mau temple area from March 11. The python is big and about 3 meters long, weighs about 10kg, the whole body is white. However, the authorities said, the truth is that the python weighs just over 4kg.

Some people near the Mau temple shared, a few days ago, a couple in Ninh Binh brought this python to a conservation unit near Van Phuong commune to hand it over. However, according to the initial assessment, this python species is not native, so the unit did not accept it. After that, people may have released it into the environment.

According to the Vietnam Red Book, the ground python has the largest size and weight among python species found in Vietnam. This species average size 4-6 m, some individuals are about 8 m long and weigh more than 100 kg.

Pythons have long, small, gray-brown heads. The top of the head has a lance-shaped pattern that goes from the neck, the point is towards the tip of the snout. In the Southern Delta, they prefer to live in swamps, melaleuca forests, swamp forests, sometimes even intruding into areas with orchards. In winter in the North, the species usually stays in burrows and mainly hunts at night; In the summer they like to soak in the water.

The species’ food is mainly rodents, deer, birds, frogs and reptiles. Currently, the number of species is severely reduced due to habitat loss and hunting. Pythons are listed in the Red Book of Vietnam, belonging to the group of animals that are strictly prohibited from being exploited and used.
