Sequin

Fashion month always carries a bit of glitter. This year, it comes in sequins. Palm Angels has brought us a beautiful beaded tracksuit in glamorous black. At Christian Cowan’s show, the dresses were decorated with vibrant red, pink, silver and black sequins for a sleek metallic effect. The great thing about the sequins trend is that you can find sequin versions of almost anything. There’s no need to wear a fancy dress when slacks are your style. If these shows prove anything, it’s a lot of sequins.

See-through style

Escaping the stay-at-home and entering the new normal with parties, Fall/Winter 2022 is gearing up to be the season for our thinnest designs. Several designers have created sheer looks this season to add to the larger theme of the ultra-glamorous looks that are shown on the catwalks during Fashion Month. At LaQuan Smith, see-through looks in the form of off-the-shoulder dresses while at Miu Miu, Miuccia Prada offers a sporty aesthetic in a unique way. Virginie Viard of Chanel has created a series of absolutely refined silhouettes that exude provocative elegance. Seen as a trend in almost every Fashion Month destination, the see-through look is one of the must-try outfits for the upcoming season.

Unique shoulder design

Nothing adds drama to a look like a sharp shoulder design. Adding shape and appeal to even the simplest of outfits, it’s an easy way to elevate everyday fashion into couture. Audiences can spot this trend on the runways of Chanel, Matty Bovan and Versace. Matty Bovan took things in a more cartoonish direction, creating big shoulder designs that went beyond the ordinary. Meanwhile, Versace aimed for a power fit, adding a striking shoulder design to the jacket for a look that said, “I’m the boss”.

Always important during that time of year when the seasons seem to blur together, layering is the easiest way to create multidimensional and adaptive looks. This year, designers have taken this practice to the next level, incorporating everything from collared coats and skirts to unique tops. Result: layering like you’ve never seen before.
