6-year-old boy almost died from constipation

Immediately, the doctors actively resuscitated, injected anti-shock drugs, stabilized blood pressure, and performed first aid. Doctors suspected that the baby had severe enteritis caused by intestinal perforation. The surgical process revealed that most of the baby’s large intestine was dilated, with a lot of stool, inflammation and almost total damage.

In particular, the position of the transverse colon (the part of the large intestine located in the middle of the abdomen) has been perforated, causing stool to leak into the abdomen, causing a critical condition for the baby.

The doctors quickly removed the infection completely and cleaned the abdomen. After 1 week of surgery, the baby’s health has improved very well, eating and preparing to be discharged from the hospital.

Through medical history investigation, the doctor learned that the boy had been constipated since the age of 3. Despite being examined in many places, the condition did not improve. Due to busy work and thinking that constipation is not dangerous, the child’s parents did not pursue treatment.

Doctor Viet Tanh said that constipation in children is mostly caused by an inappropriate diet, but there are also some cases of comorbidities. The most common is congenital megacolon in children, which needs to be diagnosed and treated promptly.
