‘BUV makes a strong impact on the higher education sector in Vietnam’
Professor Rick Bennett has just been appointed to the position of Vice-Chancellor of the British University Vietnam (BUV). Professor Rick Bennett has many years of experience in the field of education and has worked at universities around the world and in Vietnam.
In his new position, Professor Bennett will work with the school leadership to continue realizing the vision and mission of BUV, which is to bring international standard training programs and learning environment to Vietnamese students. ; creating a young generation who is passionate about discovery, has creative thinking, and is highly qualified to be ready to develop in many areas of work and life in the 4.0 technology era. He also pledged to join BUV in contributing to the development of higher education in Vietnam.
Professor Bennett holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree, University of Sydney, Australia (2009), a Master’s degree in Education, University of New South Wales, Australia (1998) and he previously received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University. Faculty of Bristol, UK (1984).

Prior to his appointment at BUV, Professor Bennett spent more than 7 years serving on the Academic Council and on the governing boards at RMIT University Vietnam. He spent 2 years as Senior Director of Academics and was responsible for managing 15 academic and student support departments. Before that, he held the position of head of the School of Communication and Design for 4 years.
BUV President, Prof. Dr. Raymond Gordon said: “Professor Bennett is an accomplished scholar with an outstanding teaching and research track record, along with a wealth of academic leadership experience. He came to BUV with valuable understanding of international higher education in Vietnam, especially in the areas of innovation and design, learning and teaching strategies, student support services and digital education. He is a perfect fit for BUV’s mission and his ability will strengthen BUV’s senior leadership team even further.”
The decision to appoint Professor Bennett to the position of Vice Rector at BUV takes effect from April 4, 2022.
During his career, he has held the position of Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales – College of Fine Arts, Sydney, Australia, and as Visiting Professor at De La Salle College of Saint Benilde University in Manila , Philippines. He also possesses extensive teaching and research experience along with professional experience from national and international conferences, seminars and conference presentations.
Taking on the new role, Professor Bennett said: “I am very excited to join the wonderful staff and students at British University Vietnam (BUV)”.
