In this case, the doctor had to ask the patient’s family to stop giving the child the above medicine.

“This is a very dangerous problem when antiretroviral drugs are prescription drugs or require the advice of a doctor to be used. Previously, on March 14, the Ministry of Health also issued new guidance on home management for people with Covid-19, including: home treatment F0 drugs required including:

Antipyretics: Paracetamol for adults: 500mg tablets, enough quantity for 3-5 days. Paracetamol for children (depending on weight and age): sachets of powder or nuggets mixed with oral suspension or tablets with content of 80mg, 100mg, 150mg or 250mg, 325mg, 500mg, the quantity is enough for 3-5 days.

Electrolyte balancing solution: Oresol, rehydration pack, other electrolytes. Cough medicine (depending on symptoms): herbal medicine, or cough suppressant alone, or cough suppressant combined with antihistamine…, the quantity is enough for 5-7 days. Note the indications, contraindications and warnings, be careful while using the drug.

Nasal solution: 0.9% sodium chloride, enough for 5-7 days. Medicines to treat underlying diseases according to prescriptions are being used for the patient (if necessary, enough for 1-2 weeks).

In addition, the Ministry of Health also issued guidelines for the treatment of common symptoms. Specifically:

F0 uses antipyretic drugs when the temperature is ≥ 38.5 degrees Celsius or a lot of headaches. For adults, the dose of Paracetamol is 1 tablet 500mg or 10-15mg/kg each time, can be repeated every 4-6 hours. Note that the total dose should not exceed 4g (4000mg)/day.

For children, use Paracetamol at a dose of 10-15 mg/kg/time (oral or rectal), at least 4-6 hours if repeated (or use dose according to age if the weight of the child is unknown). Note, the total dose should not exceed 60 mg/kg/day.

Use an electrolyte balancer solution for dehydration (due to high fever, diarrhea, fatigue). Encourage people with Covid-19 to drink plenty of water. Patients also need to increase nutrition, eat enough nutrients, increase eating fresh fruits and vegetables.

Use symptomatic medications as needed. If you have a lot of cough, you can use herbal cough suppressants, or cough suppressants alone, cough suppressants combined with antihistamines, etc. Note the indications, contraindications and warnings/cautions when using the drug.

The Ministry of Health also noted: “F0 does not arbitrarily use antiviral, antibiotic, anti-inflammatory drugs … without indications or prescriptions”.
