The US news agency CNN, based on satellite images of Planet Labs, identified at least 3 Russian military helicopters that were blown up after the Army raid. Ukraine into Kherson International Airport.
This is considered the most damaging military action for Russian armed helicopters since the day Moscow launched its military operation in Ukraine (February 24).
Russian military vehicles near the airport were also hit.
The fire following the raid on the airport was also recorded by FIRMS – the agency in charge of monitoring major world fires under NASA of the US.
According to data collected by FIRMS, the fires broke out at about 13:42 local time on March 15 (17:42 on the same day Vietnam time).
It is not clear what weapons the Ukrainian side used in the raid – but it is quite certain that there is at least one of their UAVs in the Komyshany village area near the airport.
As for the Russian planes, based on a satellite image posted by Maxar Technologies on March 14, it can be seen that these helicopters have 5 propellers – most likely they are Mi-24/Mi-35 or Mi -8/Mi-17.
Satellite images provided by Planet Labs show a cloud of black smoke believed to be fuel and explosives covering the airport area.
Zooming in on satellite images can see at least 3 helicopters among the destroyed military equipment.
The fire could be seen from many kilometers away via an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) flying over the Komyshany area.
Before the raid, satellite images provided by Maxar Technologies showed a large number of Russian military helicopters on the runway of Kherson International Airport on March 14.
