I am 24 years old this year, graduated from school 2 years ago and have also worked in some companies since I was at university. Last year when I worked as an internal communications officer at a technology company, it was a position where I found myself learning a lot. I personally think that, although the job is true to my passion, it also needs to meet many other criteria, such as salary, travel, or ability to advance. The salary there is not too high, only about 8 million/month. I’m a girl from the countryside, it’s not good to maintain that level of income. Besides, as a woman, I also have to pay a lot of expensive things like clothes, makeup, skincare…
After quitting my job at my old company, I spent the first 2 months of the year resting, returning to my hometown with my parents and celebrating Tet. During my time in my hometown, I also went online to look for job postings after Tet. It’s really not easy, because whenever I see a good job, I text the poster and they reply that the candidate has been selected.
Fortunately, through the recommendation of a friend from the same university, I applied to a company working in the field of education. Still an internal communications position – my forte. That side allows online interviews, fortunately, the number of people competing with me is not much. Because of the advantage of a good degree and high GPA from the University, along with a pretty good display of myself, I was finally selected to work in this position.
In particular, I don’t even need to try a job, the recruitment department said I will receive a salary of 11 million VND/month, every quarter will review the salary once more. My heart is excited and looking forward to the day I go to work.
Finally that day has come. That day, I was told by a colleague that I didn’t have to bring lunch because I was going to eat outside the group. It was both to welcome me and to reunite with the whole team (previously the team members were all positive for Covid-19 so they couldn’t meet).
On the first day of work, I was led by a colleague to introduce to the departments in the company. At noon, the boss said he would use his personal car to take me and the sisters in the room to eat. In my room, there is a big male boss, the rest will be hierarchical but all female staff. Among them, I am the youngest member.

I guess in my stomach I will be invited to this meal, but for peace of mind, I bring cash. In my wallet I have 300,000 dong in cash. Honestly, it’s the middle of the month, a few months ago I didn’t have any income, so I didn’t have much money left.
In the car, the boss passed, he and his sisters talked happily. I just sat quietly looking out into the street. Unexpectedly, when I got off the car, I was shocked by the scene in front of me. It is a very classy restaurant. I suddenly felt a little nervous, but I still went with everyone to that restaurant.
During lunch, everyone ordered delicious and expensive dishes. I was asked a few questions by the brothers and sisters and all answered very timidly. When it came time to pay, I was even more shocked. It turns out that here, the bill will be divided equally. And each person has to pay 400 thousand VND for a lunch. I could not pay in cash, had to transfer money.
My heart feels a bit confused. The launch lunch is quite understandable, but at this price, I am extremely awkward. With new employees, you guys should be more subtle… How many feelings in me about my boss and colleagues suddenly disappeared…
