At the age of 20, the first 5-star international hotel manager in Sapa, a former Vietnamese student shared the secret of planning a route from 11th grade.

Below is an article recounting Linh Janetta Le’s journey from her high school years to the position of head of Mgallery’s international hotel reservation department, period 2019-2020. There is no denying the element of luck in it, but obviously, Linh Janetta Le is “lucky” because she herself actively creates conditions for luck to find her.

Many of you ask me what I did to get promoted to Reservations Manager of a 5-star international hotel when I was young? You know, this is a question with no definite answer. For me, it is a combination of many factors, including direction, planning, action, observation, trade-offs, and not without a little luck.

About orientation, I won the National Excellent Student Award in Mathematics, I know I have good observation, reasoning and self-study ability. In the luxury hotel market in Vietnam, many senior officials are foreigners. The quality of human resources in the market is also not very qualified, even at the present time. There are many key positions that have not been fully exploited by the market. There are many positions that are very demanding, but in reality, the holder does not understand it, I am frank as a typical Guest Experience (Customer Experience, PV). I believe I’m good, and even with or without the ability to make a big impact on the market, I still believe in my ability to make a definite positive impact on the property I work for in a short period of time. .

I’m up plan Studied at Les Roches School, Switzerland. If you consider studying abroad in most schools in Switzerland in general compared to other environments, there are many disadvantages: Expensive costs, the opportunity to stay and find a job is approximately 0%, the schools are not is a “pure” University. So why did I still choose Les Roches then? Because there are not many schools around the world that can compare in hospitality management education, and advancing in the hotel management industry in Vietnam was my orientation at that time.

I don’t need the opportunity to stay in Switzerland to find a job after graduation, I believe in the possibility of applying for an 18-month internship in Switzerland while studying to earn approximately 700 million VND/year, so Les’s degree Roches is exactly what I needed. I know that in order to do an internship in Switzerland with the position I want, one of the requirements that Vietnamese students studying QTKS most lack is a foreign language. I was fortunate to have studied French since 1st grade, so in 11th grade I planned to learn German. That’s enough to cover the two largest regions of Switzerland.

In addition to the foreign language learning plan, I also charted a long-term path for myself in 12th grade, that I wanted to go up from Rooms Division and then to General Manager (senior manager) and even even higher than that. The act during the 18-month internship to stick to that plan. You can check out my LinkedIn to better understand what I’ve achieved during each internship. If you don’t have the opportunity to act like you did an internship, what are you waiting for, actively ask, actively seek, actively read, actively exchange friends, actively train yourself , etc. No one knows how long you will stay in that direction, but the things you discover yourself in the process of pursuing that goal will follow you for a lifetime, and at some point you will need it. to it. In addition, action must also include “dare to think and dare to do”, because if you have the thought “I haven’t graduated yet, who will let me be a manager”, it means that you have surrendered before you even start. hands to do. It’s your ability that determines, not your age. If he keeps thinking about his youth and influence, Mark Zuckerberg will not “dare” to create a Facebook empire, or Evan Spiegel will not “dare” to build Snap now.

However, in LinkedIn, it is not possible to tell everything. I spent a lot of time Mandarin close how to handle situations of colleagues and learn from their own experiences, and also observe customers to find common characteristics of the behavior of different groups. Thanks to the ability to find good rules that I have trained since I was a child, the treasure of treasures I have in my head is huge. I also enrich that treasure by constantly talking and exchanging not only with my manager but also with people who work with me in the same and different departments, and then I understand for myself why there are people who stay in this position forever. That mind can’t get up, while others keep climbing. And even after I held the Reservations Manager position, I continued this learning process, non-stop. Stop observing means being satisfied with yourself, and at the same time weakening your own competitiveness. I don’t allow that.

I was exchange what? My personality is always towards places where the pace of life is always bustling and fast. Such habitats are mostly concentrated in big cities. However, I’m not stupid. I officially went to work full-time in the summer of 2019, all the wheels are still going smoothly and developing, putting my head into the competition with the powerful human resources of the big city for the position of international high-class hotel manager. It’s like suicide. I went to Sapa, where MGallery took a shortcut to welcome a new market, where surely the operating wheel could not be complete. And I, with a profile that is also beautiful and well-prepared to face the challenge, will hardly be a person that the market “dare” to miss.

Finally, it is impossible not to mention lucky. All his calculations are “throw away” if the hotel locomotive does not welcome the risk. How many HR has just looked at the CV of a 20-year-old without a college degree for the Reservations Manager position without automatically “throwing the trash” out of sight? How many General Managers, Sales and Human Resources Directors accept to spend an hour 3 times to interview a foreign student with that CV? Thanks to the first 1 hour, I persuaded HR to enter round 2, thanks to the next 1 hour, I persuaded the Sales Director to enter round 3, and thanks to 1 hour talking with the General Manager. manager with only 1 key question that I always discussed about work right in the talk.

As an outsider looking in, you will never fully understand what a person has done to achieve what they have achieved, no matter how close you are to them. If to summarize, it is to rely on yourself, make the most of all available resources around, and break through.
