In particular, according to the sharing in this magazine, this is a stone with a ‘soul’ that, when lightly tapped, will emit a very special sound. The rock is named Tao Van because of its shape like clouds flying in the sky. Surely many people will be curious, why is Tao Van stone considered precious? The answer lies in the following three reasons.

3 REASONS THAT MADE VAN CREATE STONE BECOME A MASTER

Firstly, Tao Van stone has the oldest history among the existing precious stones in the Imperial Palace, Beijing. On the stone body, there are the clearest traces from the Yuan Dynasty. The original location of Tao Yun stone was not in the Imperial Palace, but in a cottage hidden deep in the mountain in present-day Kunshan city, Zhejiang province (China).

However, this Tao Van stone cottage was destroyed when the war for domination of the world between the Yuan and Ming dynasties broke out. Since then, this stone block has been missing for a long time. Later, it is not clear why Tao Van stone appeared in the Forbidden City (ie today’s Palace).

The second reason creating the precious value of Tao Van stone is because of its special shape. The outer appearance of the rock mass is a layer of wavy patterns floating like clouds floating in the sky. The shape of clouds on Tao Van rock is so real that, when visitors admire this rock, many people have described that they feel like they are riding clouds and kicking the wind.

Many people believe that the cloud motifs on the stone block are man-made, so they are so true. But in fact, the ‘shape’ of Tao Van stone is completely original.

Third, on the surface of Tao Van stone, there are many autographs carved by famous historical figures. Specifically, these characters come from the Yuan and Ming dynasties.

The two words ‘Tao Van’ in the center of the stone block are autographs of poet Duong Duy Trinh of the Nguyen Dynasty. At the top are 6 words “Ngoc Son Thao Duong Tinh Tinh” carved by the calligrapher of the Nguyen Dynasty – Trinh Nguyen Huu.

In addition, other inscriptions appearing on Tao Van stone also belong to many famous celebrities and actors in the past such as: Vien Tu Anh, Ly Dinh Bich, Phuong Ngoai Huu, Truong Ba Vu, Ky Nguyen Phac,… All these inscriptions have created Tao Van stone an incalculable historical and artistic value.

Unfortunately, due to the ravages of time, many of the inscriptions carved on Tao Van stone have gradually faded. Therefore, this stone block has been recognized as a treasure to be protected by the National Monuments Management Board. Carrying invaluable values, Tao Van stone is indeed one of the precious relics that should not be missed when visitors arrive at the Palace.
