Every time I go to the market, I feel like I’m “pickpocketed”, I switch to bicycles and trams to save money

Switching to work by bicycle, train, or bus because of high gas prices

Only from the beginning of 2022 until now, gasoline prices have undergone 6 price adjustments and reached the mark of 29,820/liter. Compared to March 2021, the price of gasoline has increased by 48%, causing people to clamor and complain.

Mr. Nguyen Vu Hong Quan (29 years old, Hanoi) still uses motorbikes to go to work. However, since the price of gas kept going up, he bought a bicycle and decided to use this vehicle to go to work.

“My house is about 2km from the company, used to use motorbikes to go to work. But recently the price of petrol has increased so much, before filling the tank with about 100 thousand, now it must be about 130-140 thousand. So, I decided to change to cycling, although it takes a bit more time, it can both exercise health and save more money for the family,” Quan shared.

Because of the increase in gasoline prices, Mr. Thanh Dat (31 years old, Ha Dong) also had to change his means of transport to work. His house is more than 10 km away from work, in the past, Mr. Dat still used motorbikes to move around because of its high convenience and flexibility. But now, he decided to go to work by train Cat Linh – Ha Dong.

“In the past, I didn’t care about the choice of means of transport, I just got on a motorbike to fill up and go. However, this time, the price of gasoline increased too much, every time I refueled, I felt a waste of money. That’s why. , I decided to switch to public transport, both to save costs and avoid traffic jams”, Mr. Dat confided.

Every item has increased in price, every time I go to the market it is like being “pickpocketed”.

Not only gasoline prices increased, many other essential items also simultaneously “escalated”. Every time they go to the market, housewives inevitably have a headache, how to choose the right food at an affordable price.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Huong (53 years old, Quang Ninh) often has to “measure” all living expenses in the family. From the day the price kept increasing, every time she went to the market, she felt like she was being “pickpocketed”.

“From small things like weighing sugar and salt to big things like gas cylinders, they all increased at the same time, making me also have to consider a lot of family spending. Years of being a housewife in my family have also guessed the price of gas. When oil goes up, everything goes up, so we have to find a way to balance spending.

Gasoline prices increased, causing many items to increase at the same time

Even though it looks like only a few thousand isn’t worth much, but if it all increases, I will lose more than a million dollars a month when I spend it for all 5 people in my family. Going to the market is like being “pickpocketed”, Ms. Huong lamented.

Ms. Vu Thi Dung (28 years old, in Hanoi) due to her family having small children, the cost of living also becomes a big burden for the young couple.

“After having children, the family’s living expenses also increased significantly, now even with a few hundred thousand to go to the market, they can’t buy the right food. If they wanted to eat fresh food every day, they could only eat one meal. Before , the money to go to the market for my family of 4 is about 5-6 million VND. Now the price is constantly increasing, so the money to go to the market also has to add 1-2 million more”, Ms. Dung shared.

Compare the prices of some essential items now with 1 year ago

When it comes to going to the market, Kim Ngan (33 years old, Hanoi) can’t help but have a headache. Prices are increasing day by day but wages are standing still, making her family always in the situation of “squeezing your mouth shut”, tightening spending.

“Now going to the market, every item is more expensive. Even from the package of instant noodles, the price has increased, from 5 thousand to 6 thousand, cooking oil, fish sauce, noodles, toilet paper… what should you buy? That’s the price increase. Then the gas tank was more than 300 thousand before, now it must be 500 thousand. Even the milk box bought for children to drink every day also increased from 1-2 thousand / box.

The family has small children, so they also want to buy a lot of healthy food for the children. But the prices are constantly expensive, the salary does not increase, I also have to try to ‘squeeze my mouth’, tighten spending to ensure the family’s economy”, Ms. Xuan shared.

Not only buyers, many small traders are also surprised by the current price level. Ms. Thanh Xuan, owner of a grocery store in Hanoi, said that since the beginning of the year, the price of imported groceries has continuously increased.

People buckling because of the burden of spending during the storm

“Compared to the time before Tet, many imported goods have increased in price at the same time. For example, instant noodles increased by 8-10% depending on type, cooking oil also increased by 5-10 thousand / liter. Or like fish sauce, main noodles also increased slightly from 3-5 thousand.

Because the import price increased, I also had to increase the selling price. Many difficult students or families also lament but know what to do, now the price is like that”, Ms. Xuan shared.

Before the price storm, the lives of many families were significantly affected. People have to bear the burden of daily living expenses. Everything must be carefully “weighed and measured” in order to maintain life.
