just try it
Some Windows 11 Insider users discovered that Microsoft has begun testing advertising programs for some of its other products in the File Explorer application.
A user has shared a screenshot of this new “feature”, which shows an advertising message displayed above the list of folders and files in File Explorer, Windows’ default file manager.
Microsoft uses this banner to advertise Microsoft Editor products. As you can imagine, masses of users have protested this, some saying that File Explorer is “one of the worst places to show ads”, while others commented this is how Microsoft “cause people ditch Explorer for another app.”
This is not the first time Microsoft has added ads to File Explorer, as in 2016, Microsoft also displayed OneDrive ads. Even, Microsoft has also advertised scatteredly in many places on Windows, such as advertising the Office web application on Windows 10 Wordpad two years ago, or advertising Microsoft Edge in the Windows 10 Start Menu.
After receiving many objections from users, Brandon LeBlanc, Senior Product Manager of Windows, explained that “This is an experimental banner that is not intended for external release and has been turned off.”
