Rarely discovered traces of asteroid hitting Earth

A small asteroid has hit Earth above Iceland just two hours after astronomers discovered it.

A small asteroid called 2022 EB5 burned up most of the Earth’s atmosphere. Astronomers discovered it only two hours before it caught fire.

Rarely discovered traces of asteroid hitting Earth

Experts estimate asteroid 2022 EB5 to be about 3 meters wide. Therefore, even if the asteroid impacted the Earth, it would not cause much damage.

Krisztián Sárneczky, a Hungarian astronomer discovered the asteroid while observing a station at the Konkoly Observatory near Budapest.

Some Icelandic locals have reported hearing loud bangs and flashes of light in the sky at the time of 2022 EB5 hitting Earth.

According to experts, the asteroid 2022 EB5 plunged into the Earth’s atmosphere at a speed of 18.5 km / s, falling to the surface in the area between Greenland and Norway. Currently, no meteorite fragments have been found on Earth after the collision.

David Polishook, astronomer at the Weizmann Institute of Science, said: “The impact did not cause damage, falling in the sea from Norway to Iceland. It was discovered only two hours earlier. The asteroid is too large. small, so it doesn’t have a big impact.

This is the 5th asteroid discovered before hitting Earth and there are clear witnesses to the incident.

In 2008, asteroid 2008 TC3, 4.1 meters wide, 80 tons, crashed to Earth causing a huge explosion in the Nubian Desert. Experts recovered about 600 meteorite fragments of different sizes after the collision.

In 2014, a near-Earth asteroid named 2014 AA hit the atmosphere above Venezuela. In 2018, an asteroid that hit Earth created debris near the border of Botswana and South Africa.

In 2020, a fourth asteroid collided with Earth creating a large but harmless explosion off the southern coast of Puerto Rico.

Asteroids are one of the deadliest natural disasters that Earth can encounter, one of which is because there is currently no way to prevent them.

An asteroid about 140 meters wide would release 1,000 times more energy than would be released by an atomic bomb if it collided with Earth.

That’s why NASA is on a test mission to redirect an asteroid’s path.
