On March 16, Russia’s Media Supervision Agency announced that it had blocked more than 30 websites belonging to international media, as well as projects of foreign companies, from spreading fake news about the situation in Ukraine. Earlier, the EU banned the broadcasting of Russian RT and Sputnik channels within the framework of sanctions against Russia related to Ukraine. At the same time, YouTube has also blocked Russian media channels around the world.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, along with the special military operation in Ukraine, Russia is facing a large-scale information war. The Russian Investigative Committee recently opened at least three criminal cases against those who spread fake news about the Russian military on Instagram and other social media.

On March 16, in an online address to the US Congress, Ukrainian President Zelensky called on Washington to increase aid to Ukraine, and reiterated his proposal to establish a no-fly zone over the country’s territory. Mr. Zelensky acknowledged all support from the US, but hoped that Washington would further increase humanitarian and military aid to Ukraine.

The Ukrainian leader made the call in the context that US President Joe Biden has just signed into law an annual US spending bill, including $13.6 billion in aid for Ukraine. Of this money, there is 1 billion USD for security support and the deployment of longer-range weapons to Ukraine.

President Biden in early March also approved a $350 million weapons package, including anti-tank missiles, anti-aircraft missiles, personal weapons and ammunition for Ukraine.

However, Mr. Biden reiterated his previous position that Washington would not send forces into the war in Ukraine.
