Teenage girl is skinny because of eating disorder
It is the haunting story of a young girl named Nine White, now 21 years old, in Merseyside County (England). That year, Nine was only 13 years old, she had to go through a huge first shock when she saw her father commit suicide. Although Nine’s father did not lose his life after the incident, it left a great impression on his teenage daughter.
Then, Nine suffered from a serious eating disorder, which was caused by the “missing” suicide of her father and the incident that happened two years earlier.
The young woman told the Liverpool Echo: “When I was about 11 years old, I had a pretty bad choking incident and after that, I started to have a little bit of fear that every time I eat I’m going to choke or I’m… going to die.”

Two years later, Nine and her family must deal with grief as her father tries to take his own life.
“I’d say that trauma left me feeling out of control, helpless at the thought I almost lost my father at that age. My parents tried to get me to see counselors in town. I went to school to talk about that obsession but I couldn’t open my heart. I was so traumatized that I kept all my feelings and didn’t dare to share it with anyone. Later that year, my eating disorder. I then started getting worse and worse.” young girl recounts.
Nine spent the next five years in and out of the hospital, in which she spent a full year at a specialist hospital in Glasgow, nearly 400km from her home.
For many years, Nine had to eat by pipe.
During a hospital admission in March 2017, Nine said she was asked by doctors to perform the squat as part of a series of tests.
She said: “When I tried to squat with my own body weight, I literally just fell to the floor. I couldn’t even sit up to the doctor’s discretion. They told me internal organs were in my body. I started shutting down and I was sent home, to… waiting to die”.
In a Facebook post to mark Eating Disorders Awareness Week earlier this month, Nine wrote: “I spent 5 arduous years, being confined in a hospital ward, being forced to eat by 8 people, I was too scared to eat, I couldn’t even swallow a sip of water.”
“The words my consultant said to me when I was discharged were: “I wouldn’t be surprised if you came back in 2 weeks” … but here I am, almost 3 years later.
Nine of the present have learned to appreciate themselves more.
Nine’s journey to recovery began in January 2020 when she recalled, “I told myself I couldn’t let myself go back to the hospital.”
Nine said: “So I started slowly trying to change and then around April 2021 I started feeding myself for the first time in four years. It was scary. Even simple things like holding spoon, holding a fork, I’m not used to that, I haven’t done that in a long time, it feels very strange and unnatural.”
