Mia Ikumi passed away on March 7 after experiencing a sudden brain hemorrhage. Mia Ikumi is a manga artist as well as Tokyo Mew Mew film supervisor for the past two years. Anime will be released in July of this year, along with a specially modified version from her. Currently, the anime community in Japan and Tokyo Mew Mew fans are shocked by the sudden passing of Mia Ikumi.

Mia Ikumi first appeared in Nakayoshi magazine with a manga adaptation of the Super Doll Licca-chan anime in 1998. In 2000, the Tokyo Mew Mew manga began serialization. The manga is written by Reiko Yoshida, while Ikumi is in charge of the art. The series was published from 2000 to 2003 and is one of the most popular series in Japan in the early 21st century.

The news of Mia Ikumi’s sudden death came from Kodansha as the publisher often worked with her. In her statement, Kodansha shared their love for Ikumi and said how the artist is eager to see Tokyo Mew Mew return to television with its revival. It’s a pity that her brainchild was not born, Mia Ikumi suddenly passed away forever, leaving many mourning for the fans.

“We sincerely pray for Mia Ikumi’s soul and would like to inform all of you of her passing. Ikumi-sensei has been overseeing the anime for the past two years with love and is looking forward to recommending it all. We’ll continue to work on her work and deliver an impressive Tokyo Mew Mew this July in memory of Mia Ikumi.” Kodansha publisher shared the status line on its official website.
