The wood industry proactively responds to raw material price fluctuations

The Russian Federation has just put more than 200 items on the list of temporarily suspended exports to Europe and a number of countries, including raw wood. Vietnam wood import Directly from Russia is only about 2% of the total wood imports and is not on the list of restricted exports.

However, Vietnam imports wood mainly from Europe and the US, so it will be indirectly affected when the world market’s supply of wood is reduced. The wood industry has come up with a solution to the scarcity and increasing input prices of raw wood.

According to An Lac Wood Company, Russia exports to Europe the most pine and some types of oak. Therefore, the current fluctuation is that the world price of pine and oak has increased significantly, forcing them to find other alternative sources of wood.

According to Woodsland Joint Stock Company – enterprise wood export plywood and furniture, a type of surface coating from Russian birch wood is very popular in the world market, ordering Vietnamese enterprises as exports.

In the coming time, it is likely that international customers will change their tastes in using this type of wood and their work must be adapted immediately to meet the new needs of customers.

According to forestry experts, in the short term, countries including Vietnam can simultaneously increase exploitation to supplement timber sources for the world market.

“This could be a good opportunity for Vietnam to negotiate with its partners, buyers, in replacing raw wood from Russia in particular and imported wood in general with available Vietnamese wood as a raw material. acacia wood and rubber”, said Mr. To Xuan Phuc – Policy analyst, Forest Trends.

Currently, Vietnam is exploiting about 30 million m3 of planted forest every year. However, to meet the needs of the world market, Vietnam needs to improve the quality of large timber trees and also diversify the types of trees to meet the requirements of the international market.
