UK sends missiles to Poland, Russia-Ukraine talks continue

According to British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace, the country will deploy the Sky Saber missile system to Poland in the near future.

“We will deploy the Sky Saber system in Poland, as a move of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to strengthen the security of the eastern flank, in the context of Russia’s attack on Ukraine,” Reuters news agency said. quoted Mr. Wallace as saying during a visit to Warsaw, Poland today (March 17).

“We will be transferring the Sky Saber medium-range air defense system and 100 military personnel to Poland, to ensure that we stand with the local authorities and protect Polish airspace from any aggressions. . Of course, the missile system will always be under our control,” he added.

According to British military sources, the Sky Saber missile has a maximum range of 45km, with a maximum flight speed of up to Mach 4, equivalent to 1,372 m/s. Therefore, it is capable of shooting down enemy fighters or smart bombs.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian authorities today released some preliminary information about the situation of people sheltering in the Drama Theater in the port city of Mariupol, which was hit by a Russian military strike earlier.

“After a terrible night of uncertainty, this morning, the 22nd day of conflict, there was some good news coming from Mariupol. Many people in the bomb shelter survived and got out. The work to clean up the rubble has begun,” Al Jazeera news agency quoted the content of a Facebook post by Ukrainian lawmaker Serhiy Taruta.

According to Ukrainian lawmaker Olga Stefanishyna, hundreds of civilians have been pulled from the ruins of the theater. “The bunker under the Mariupol Theater has withstood an air strike. About 130 people were saved. This is very strange, while the rescuers are still trying to rescue those who are still trapped,” MP Stefanishyna said.

Elsewhere, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said negotiations between the country’s delegation and diplomats Ukraine is still going on.

“Negotiations are ongoing. Our delegation is working very hard and is much more willing than their Ukrainian counterparts. Our conditions are extremely clear and complete, which has caught the attention of Ukrainian negotiators,” Peskov told Al Jazeera news agency.
