The Texas Department of Public Safety said the determination that the boy was driving at the time of the crash was based on an examination of the remains in the driver’s seat following the fire following the crash.

US investigators are still looking into whether the vehicle’s video recording data still exists after the crash, so it can download data about the vehicle’s speed before the crash. The speed limit on the highway is 75 mph (120 km/h).

Mr. Landsberg said: “This is clearly a head-on collision with high speed between two heavy vehicles“.

Several passengers on the tour bus appeared to have failed to wear seat belts and at least one person was ejected from the vehicle in the collision.

The preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board will be released in about two to three weeks, but the final report will not be released for 12 to 18 months, Landsberg said.
