Hung Vuong General Hospital (Phu Tho) has just given emergency treatment to a 2-month-old newborn with Covid-19. The patient was admitted to the hospital with a high fever of 40 degrees, lethargy, prolonged convulsions, cyanosis, grade I abdominal burns. Rapid test result was positive for Sars-CoV-2 virus.
The doctors quickly treated with emergency intubation, mechanical ventilation and used vasopressors, sedation, antibiotics. After receiving intensive care, the baby fortunately passed the life-threatening stage.
The baby was given the necessary laboratory tests, the doctors conducted a consultation and agreed on the diagnosis: Monitoring Encephalitis, Meningitis, Septic Shock / Corona Virus Infection.
Exploring the baby’s medical history from the family, said: The baby was infected with Covid-19 on the 4th day, had a high fever, sucked poorly, at home taking fever-reducing medicine did not reduce the fever, the family applied garlic on the baby’s abdomen to cure it. However, the baby’s condition was getting worse, the fever was low, the abdomen was blistered, the family took the baby to Hung Vuong General Hospital for emergency.
The doctor who directly gave first aid and treatment to the patient said: The baby was admitted to the hospital in a very critical condition, the doctors had to race to be able to give timely emergency care to the baby. Newborn babies infected with Covid-19 are easy to change seriously if they are not monitored and cared for in time. Now the baby’s condition is more stable and receiving special care
Warning to parents when having an unfortunate child infected with coronavirus if the child has a high fever that does not respond to fever-reducing drugs, it is necessary to take the child to the hospital for examination and treatment, in addition to febrile convulsions, when the child is infected.
