Beating a series of other names, the anime movie Evangelion won the 45th most prestigious award in Japan

Recently, the 45th Japan Academy Film Award was officially announced anime movie Evangelion: 3.0 + 1.0: Thrice Upon A Time is the winning work in the “Best Animated Feature Film” category. This is the highest award for an animated film in Japan. The title beat other nominations BELLE, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko and Sing A Bit Of Harmony to finish in first place.

In 2020, Kimetsu No Yaiba: Mugen Train is the outstanding name to win this award.

Other anime-related wins include best animation director which went to Sadao Tsukioka (NHK Minna no Uta’s Kitakaze Kozou no Kantarou, Ookami Shounen Ken). The best voice actor award went to Masako Nozawa (Dragon Ball’s Goku, GeGeGe no Kitaro’s Kitaro). Kyoto Animation and Toei Animation are honored to receive the most dedicated studio award in 2021 with many successful projects.

Evangelion is an original anime franchise created by director Anno Hideaki. The first version of Evangelion called Neon Genesis Evangelion was 26 episodes long and a movie released around 1995 became a sensation in the Japanese anime industry because of its timeless art element. By 2007, an anime movie series “reboot” was made. This series also tells the same story as Neon Genesis Evangelion, but with many changes and more cinematic character. Evangelion: 3.0 + 1.0: Thrice Upon A Time is the final installment of this series and also the end to the story of the Evangelions.

In addition to the Best Animated Feature award, Evangelion: 3.0 + 1.0: Thrice Upon A Time also won the “Popular Award” category voted by the audience in 2021. This is a great ending for the franchise. The brand is said to be the monument of the Japanese anime industry – Evangelion.
