The two snakes above look very similar in both color and black cavities on the snake’s body, so if you are not careful, you may get confused between them and the result will be ‘one inch wrong. mile’.

In fact, the phenomenon of non-venomous snakes mimicking the patterns of venomous snakes is not uncommon in nature. This is also a way to help non-venomous snakes survive when ‘depending on’ the reputation of dangerous and scary snakes.

For example, a king snake has a pattern and color similar to an extremely poisonous coral snake, a wolf snake pretends to be a black and white krait, a buffalo cobra has a pattern on its body that is quite similar to a king cobra…

Answer

The highly venomous snake in the image above is the one on the right, which is a MacClelland silver-headed coral snake (Scientific name: Sinomicrurus macclellandi); Meanwhile, the snake on the left is the red-striped snake (Scientific name: Oligodon arnensis) – no venom.

The simple feature that helps to quickly distinguish these two snakes is the different head: the silver-headed coral snake has a white stripe on the head while the red-striped snake has a pattern like a black arrow on the back of the head.

Both are snakes distributed mainly in the South and East Asian environments, so it is easy to be confused in identification. If it is subjective because the body color is the same, it will be extremely dangerous when the coral snake has strong venom.

Coral snake venom can kill a person due to its neurotoxin. Symptoms when bitten are stiff lips, difficulty breathing, difficulty speaking, blurred vision… Some patients have quickly lost their lives due to heart failure. Currently, the majority of the regularly reported cases occur in Thailand.
