At the 30th SEA Games, the Vietnamese sports delegation did not compete in the marathon content. But this year, with the home field advantage, the Vietnamese marathon team will participate. In the content of triathon and duathlon, there are also the return of familiar names of Vietnamese athletics such as Pham Tien San or Ha Van Nhat. These are all athletes who are “horizontal” when switching from athletics to a pentathlon. In addition to the return of many names, the absence of some athletes due to poor performance is understandable in this list.
The most unfortunate is probably the case of Duong Van Thai. Van Thai did not pass the selection round. Previously, this athlete won 8 gold medals, 1 bronze medal in the men’s 800m, 1,500m races during 5 SEA Games from 2011 to 2019.
At the 31st SEA Games, Vietnamese athletics aims to win at least 15 to 17 gold medals to maintain the top position of the whole team. The 31st SEA Games athletics event will be held from May 14 to 19, 2022 at My Dinh National Stadium (Hanoi) with 47 sets of medals.
