33-year-old female patient died after breast augmentation in Ho Chi Minh City: 1A Hospital reported

According to the report, the two surgeons and anesthesiologists who performed breast augmentation for female patients both have practice certificates and labor contracts with 1A Hospital.

Regarding the case of a patient who died during breast augmentation surgery, the Ho Chi Minh City Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Hospital (1A Hospital) in Tan Binh district has reported to the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, Department of Medical Examination and Treatment (Ministry of Health).

According to the report, Ms. NTNN (33 years old, from Dong Thap, living in District 6) has breast hypoplasia (small breasts) on both sides, requiring breast reconstruction surgery. The patient was introduced by Dr. Nguyen Van Thiet to 1A Hospital for surgery.

Here, patients are examined and tested preoperatively according to hospital procedures. The treatment method for the patient is breast reconstruction surgery with gel bags. The method of anesthesia is endotracheal anesthesia.

Surgeon Nguyen Van Thiet, with a practicing certificate issued by the Ministry of Health, supplemented the scope of medical examination and treatment specializing in plastic surgery. Anesthesiologist and resuscitation doctor named Vo Van Tuan, has a practicing certificate in medical examination and treatment specializing in anesthesiology and resuscitation. The two doctors mentioned above both have labor contracts with 1A Hospital.

Also according to the report, the patient suffered from respiratory arrest during surgery and was managed in an active resuscitation in accordance with the procedure. The case is currently waiting for the results of the forensic examination of the investigative police agency of Tan Binh District Police.

In addition, on the same day, the Department of Health of Ho Chi Minh City also said that it had written to 1A Hospital to clearly report the content of the above medical incident so that the Department of Health had a basis to report to the City People’s Committee and the Ministry of Health.

Upon receiving the hospital’s report, the Department of Health will provide more information on the hospital’s approved technical list and consider meeting the Technical and Professional Council of the Department of Health to have a conclusion on the incident.

Before that, at noon on March 18, according to the appointment, Ms. NTNN went to 1A Hospital for breast augmentation surgery in normal health. At 15:00 on the same day, N. had not come out yet, so her family members went to ask the doctor and was informed that Ms. N. was under anesthesia and had not yet woken up.

Family members asked to visit but were not allowed. However, after that, the doctor reported that the patient had a drop in blood pressure and refused to let his family members in. Her family members went to the rooms to find her and found her lying on a bed in one room but dead.
