Devil-faced spiders hunt with nets

Devil Face Spider (Deinopidae) also known by another name is Spider mesh. This spider possesses one of the most special hunting skills in the arachnid world. They know how to use braided silk to make nets to make effective hunting tools.

Demon-faced spider hunts prey

Good eyesight and wide field of vision help them easily detect prey in the dark. Devil face spiders have up to 8 eyes but are often mistaken for only 2 eyes, the reason is that the main eyes are superior in size compared to the rest of the auxiliary eyes. But the extra eyes are too small to be noticed.

The demon face spider is distributed in tropical regions worldwide from Australia to Africa and the Americas. In Florida, the devil-faced spider is often spotted hanging upside down under a palm tree by a silk thread during the day. At night, they come into action to capture invertebrate prey with their special tools.

When hunting, they often hang themselves in the air and wait patiently for prey to appear. When approaching the prey close enough, the demon-faced spider uses its four front legs to spread the net racket that it has painstakingly braided to capture the prey.
