NASA released a photo of a beautiful star surrounded by thousands of galaxies

The image was released on March 16 from the James Webb space telescope of NASA is an experimental photograph, not a formal scientific observation, intended to see how the telescope’s 18 hexagonal mirrors work to produce a single coordinated image taken Earth 1.6 million kilometers. The glasses worked better than expected, the scientists said.

In February, NASA observed a star at a much closer distance with 18 separate images from segmented mirrors.

The scientists said that they were delighted to see the latest test photographs that were sent in. NASA’s latest test image is aimed at a star 100 times fainter than the naked eye can see, about 2,000 light-years from Earth.

The mirror shape of the James Webb space telescope and its filters make the star appear redder and have sharper rays. However, it is the background around the star that is remarkable.

“You can’t help but notice the thousands of galaxies behind the star. It’s really beautiful,” said Jane Rigby, project scientist for the James Webb telescope operations project.

According to The Guardian, these galaxies are several billion years old. The first official scientific images will probably be published in late June or early July.

The $10 billion James Webb Space Telescope is a more advanced version of the nearly 32-year-old Hubble Space Telescope. The Webb telescope was launched into space from South America in December 2021 and reached its designated location in January 2022.
