Con Dao airport may close from April next year

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has just sent a document to the Ministry of Transport reporting on the implementation of the investment project to upgrade the runway and taxiway at Con Dao airport.

The scope of upgrading and expanding the existing runway is within the Con Dao airport area and does not require site clearance. Particularly, the installation of approach lights will have to extend to the sea, it is necessary to carefully survey to evaluate the ability to construct, extend to the sea and also maintain and repair when put into operation.

The parallel taxiway construction area is partly located in the existing airfield land, partly in the land used by the 18th Army, and partly in the existing aircraft apron.

The planned land area for construction of the station is vacant land and agricultural land. The planned area for construction of the apron and ancillary items is mostly land belonging to the current airport.

The scope of investment in the construction of parallel taxiways is partly located in the land of the existing airfield, partly in the land used by the 18th Army Corps, and partly in the area of ​​the existing aircraft apron.

“Therefore, when constructing a parallel taxiway, compensation and ground clearance for the works of the 18th Army must be made; additional land must be arranged according to the planning for the 18th Army to relocate these works. According to the approved Con Dao airport plan, in the period to 2030, it is necessary to synchronously deploy 4 groups of component projects including: runway and taxiway works (assigned to be owned by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam). invest); Air traffic control tower, aviation meteorological station system (invested by the Flight Management Corporation); Construction of aprons, passenger terminals and shared infrastructure such as roads, electricity supply, water supply and drainage are invested by ACV and aviation petroleum depots are implemented in the form of housing selection. investment in accordance with the law.

However, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam, ACV has not included the construction of passenger terminals, aircraft aprons and shared technical infrastructure at Con Dao airport in the investment plan for the period 2021 – 2025.
