Lore Museum, Poltava

Chimaeras Building, Kyiv

Pysanka Museum, Kolomyia, Pokuttya

Pysanka is a traditionally decorated Easter egg, especially associated with Ukraine. This work was banned under the Soviet Union but later became a symbol of the country’s identity. Inside the giant egg is a collection of more than 12,000 small pysanky eggs collected from around the world.

This is also the only museum in the world with such style and collection, even experts say this is the most Ukrainian building ever. This egg was designed by artists Vasyl Andrushko and Myroslav Yasinskyi born and raised in this region.

St George’s Church, Drohobych

Derzhprom, Kharkiv

In 1928 when this vast administrative complex opened, it was one of the largest single structures in the world and contained the first Soviet skyscrapers (13 stories high). To this day, this building still looks like a sci-fi movie scene, with concrete blocks and large glass panels connected by daring “sky bridges”.

Salyut Hotel, Kyiv

Potemkin Steps, Odessa

As a symbol of immortality in the 1925 film “Battleship Potemkin” by Sergei Eisenstein. In the movie, this place is dyed red with the blood of the enemy and the brave National Guard soldiers. In real life, this place is quite peaceful and simply a public area, but the attraction of the movie makes tourists come here more and more, even called a pilgrimage site of movie devotees.

Officially known as the Primorsky Stairs, the structure resembles the stadium benches. The lowest step is more than 10 meters wide while the higher it goes, the smaller the width, creating a rather majestic sight when viewed from below.

Monastery in the Caves (Pechersk Lavra), Kyiv

Built on top of a cluster of caves overlooking the Dnieper River, this sprawling monastery dates back to the 11th century when Moscow was not yet a modern city. The exterior is baroque style of 17th century Ukraine, but the interior is gilded with gold furniture.

The 18th-century Great Lavra bell tower is an important landmark of the region. Dormition Church – the main church of the monastery, was destroyed by the Nazis during the second world war, and was rebuilt and re-consecrated until 2000.
