Three points helped Tottenham overcome opponents and one point ahead of Man Utd to take fifth place. They are three points behind Arsenal and have played more than one game. Three points behind Tottenham and more than a game in hand, West Ham have almost no chance of making the top four when the season has just 10 rounds to go.

Teacher and student David Moyes marched into the Tottenham Stadium happily into the quarter-finals of the Europa League for the first time, having knocked out Sevilla. However, injuries to Jarrod Bowen and Angelo Ogbonna made West Ham weak both in attack and defense. Taking advantage of this, Conte directed his students to apply pressure from the start.

From Matt Doherty’s winning phase, Harry Kane dribbled in the center of the visitors’ circle of four before stretching for Son. The Korean striker’s ball touched Kurt Zouma’s feet and changed direction, leaving Lukasz Fabianski helpless. Tottenham had a chance to double the lead just two minutes later but Son hit the post with the goal still wide open.

Son had to wait more than 10 minutes to get his name on the scoreboard. Kane’s pass tore through the West Ham defense to open the door. But Son also showed his class when he overcame Zouma and then emphatically finished with his left even though his angle was not very favorable.

Towards the end of the first half, West Ham shortened the distance. From a corner, the ball drifted into Said Benrahma’s position after an aerial situation and the Algerian midfielder scored easily. This goal ignited hope for Moyes teachers and students. Therefore, right after the pause, they rushed to attack. Meanwhile, after the first half was somewhat open, Tottenham chose to play defensively and counter-attack with a two-goal advantage.

More chances came to the home team. On a day without a chance to score, Kane fired at Fabianski after Son’s cross. Not long after, Michail Antonio had scarce space in the penalty area but his shot was still over the bar. West Ham’s hero of the last two games, Andriy Yarmolenko, also had a chance but his shot went wide.

West Ham’s fitness showed signs of dropping in the last 25 minutes as they only played three days ago while the opponents had a week off. Because David Moyes’s troops were unable to keep up with Tottenham’s counter-attack speed. Had Sergio Reguilon handled it more neatly or Kane had not missed a goal in front of the goalkeeper, Tottenham could have restored their two-goal lead.

With two minutes remaining in the second half, the home fans could again enjoy the joy of scoring goals. Kane was still in the assist role with a header from the tee Hugo Lloris. Son broke the offside trap before beating Fabianski in the face-to-face phase. This was the 29-year-old striker’s 14th goal this season. Meanwhile, Kane scored his 50th goal in the London derby.

Tottenham will host Newcastle in their next match on 3 April and West Ham will play Everton. On April 8, Moyes’ teachers and students will play the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final against Lyon.
