The future is uncertain for Ukrainians displaced by the war

Tanya, a resident from the Berdychiv region of northern Ukraine, can finally be relieved when her family receives help after a long journey to Poland.

“I tried to protect my five children from the sounds of war. When the sirens went off at the start of the fighting, I covered the windows with blankets so the kids wouldn’t have to hear the sound. My little kids see it as the sound of a monster, a monster siren,” Tanya told Reuters news agency.

According to Reuters, Ms. Tanya and her children are now part of a group of 50 evacuees from Ukraine. They are all staying at a theater in the Polish town of Przemysl, not far from the border with Ukraine.

“Here, at least we are safe. No sirens, no shakes. My children did not sleep well in the early days when the war broke out. I then woke up in the middle of the night and cried a lot. But now everything is fine, my son can sleep here,” Pavlovska, a 28-year-old mother, said.

According to human rights activist Monika Matus, there are many displaced people from Ukraine who do not know where their fate will be.

“Many major cities in Poland now have enough shelter and food to provide for evacuees. Most of them were well received by the Polish people, but we knew that things couldn’t go on like this forever. Everything is only temporary. Most evacuees don’t know what’s going on, or where they should go. We can be sure that not all of the evacuees will get a job, or qualify their children to go to Polish schools,” Matus was quoted as saying by Al Jazeera news agency.
