The road parallel to Vo Van Kiet Avenue will be opened to traffic

Ho Chi Minh CityA parallel route to Vo Van Kiet Boulevard being built near the Saigon River Tunnel, District 1, is completing a final item, which is expected to be leveraged from April to assist in easy car travel.

On the morning of March 20, nearly 20 workers and many machines built the runway, built a drainage and lighting system… on a construction site that is more than 600 m long from the Nguyen Thai Hoc to Pasteur intersection. Along the Tau Hu canal, reinforced concrete embankments have been completed and are being paved along the sides. This project is currently in the completion stage, so most of the work uses mechanical machines to level and level the soil…

“The construction is quite convenient because this work is separated from the Vo Van Kiet road outside, it doesn’t affect moving vehicles,” said a worker at the construction site.

The new Vo Van Kiet Avenue parallel road project was built, started last May, at a cost of 54 billion VND. The work is 615 m long, 7 m wide, under the Calmette bridge on the shores of the Tau Hu canal which connects the Nguyen Thai Hoc road to Pasteur, allowing cars to travel 40 km/h. Project to add drainage, lighting, trees…

Parallel routes were deployed to address congestion and unsafe situations at the Vo Van Kiet – Ky Con intersection. Since this is an intersection with a lot of traffic turning into the city center, the directions often clash leading to accidents. The completed route helps traffic flow to reduce intersections at the aforementioned intersections, moving more smoothly and creating ventilation for the area.

Doan Van Tan, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Traffic Management Center (investor), said that the project has basically completed the main items. Next week, contractors will make plastic carpets, complete walkways and other support items.

“It is hoped that by early April, the parallel route will be completely completed. We will plan a suitable traffic organization plan before operating it,” said Mr Tan and said last year, the impact of Covid-19 caused construction projects to be disrupted, and completion time had to be postponed.

Vo Van Kiet Road is 60 m wide, about 13 km long, from the Calmette Bridge (District 1) to the intersection of National Highway 1, belonging to the province. East – West Road from Ho Chi Minh City. After 13 years of operation, it is still one of the largest and most beautiful arterial shafts in the city, connecting the western and southeastern provinces. Due to the increasing demand for travel, Ho Chi Minh City is calculating to extend the Vo Van Kiet road by about 5 km to Duc Hoa district, Long An province, to improve regional connectivity.
