Boeing 737 plane carrying 132 people crashes in China

According to the Civil Aviation Administration of China, the China Eastern Airlines plane carrying 132 people was on its way from the southwestern city of Kunming to Guangzhou when it lost contact in Wuzhou city, Guangxi. There were 123 passengers and 9 crew members on board. Chinese media initially reported that the plane was carrying 133 people.

According to Flightradar24, the plane that crashed was a Boeing 737-800 that had been in service for 6 years. Chinese state media said rescue work has been deployed to the scene, and the number of casualties is unknown. Local media quoted a rescue official as saying parts of the plane had broken off. The fire that erupted due to the accident burned the surrounding trees before being extinguished.
